When Danny Watts started Downtown Patriots, this multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer wanted a sound that captured his love of grunge but with a modern twist of energy.

Originally hailing from Colchester, UK (home of Britpop popularist band Blur) and after training as a sound engineer, Danny working in various London studios, before opening his own writing and production base in Southwark.

Formed in 2011 by Watts, Downtown Patriots is a one-man band that has garnered a reputation for his unique blend of rock, indie, and 80’s influences. The sound is characterised by gritty guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and thought-provoking lyrics that resonate with a wide audience.

"I love all forms of music, but I get a real kick from plugging in an electric guitar in to an amp and cranking it up via a good distortion pedal.  Throw in some 80s synths and some phat break-beats and you get an idea of the sound of Downtown Patriots' latest offering."

  • The Metal Asylum: "Danny’s voice is ideal for this type of music. It is strong and powerful with a grittiness that is so prevalent in grunge and alternative rock and it’s his voice that really makes the track stand out.”

  • Music Arenagh: "The production on “Said and Done” is impeccable, with each instrument expertly layered to create a lush and textured sound that will transport you back to the glory days of ’90s alternative rock. Downtown Patriots sophisticated guitar work, strong bass lines, and repetitive percussion rhythms create a soundscape reminiscent of Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins.”

  • Mesmerized: "I’m about to sink my teeth into the entire “Dance Out Of The Dark” album.  Watts’ raw energy and emotion have really resonated with me, and he’s a musician that I’ll certainly be following closely."
